Design Collective is pleased to announce that the Art Academy of Cincinnati has received LEED Certification. This fine arts school, located in Cincinnati, Ohio, consists of the adaptive use of two historic buildings into one combined location with both academic and administrative uses.

The Art Academy of Cincinnati’s new LEED Certified home in Over-the-Rhine has many green features. The project received innovation credits for its exceptional use of recycled and regional materials. It uses a variety of techniques to reduce its energy and water consumption. Attention was paid to the indoor air quality, especially in studios where chemical processes are regularly used.

The most sustainable aspect of the project was the Academy’s decision to relocate to Over-the-Rhine. The Academy took a leap of faith when it first purchased the site in 2000. Since its move in 2005, the Academy has become a catalyst for change in Over-the-Rhine. They have been part of and encourage Over-the-Rhine’s renaissance.
