Cool Digs: Chesapeake Contracting Group Expands into a new, modern home

Chesapeake Contracting Group moved into a new home this June that gave the Baltimore County company an additional 8,000 square feet to spread out.

Employees at the general contracting firm now have more offices, conference rooms and multi-purpose spaces to utilize for greater collaboration. The space replaces the company’s former headquarters of 30 years in Reisterstown.

The new Owings Mills office offers a clean, contemporary design with eclectic touches and homey features like a fireplace.

What prompted the company’s move? 

After 30 years of being headquartered in Reisterstown with the company’s offices spread across four floors of two separate buildings, leaders realized they had simply run out of room and needed a single, modern facility to support the firm’s ongoing growth.

What were the guiding principles behind designing the new space? 

By the time leadership started talking to the design team, they felt that people had gotten used to working at home due to Covid-19, so they thought they should create a workspace that looks and feels like home.

What colors and styles are used in the design? 

Pops of brightly colored furniture and walls mix with natural wood features, stone walls, a plant wall and large windows.

Does the office have any artwork? 

Black and white construction photos that have been taken over the company’s 42 years in business adorn the walls.

What are the workspaces like? 

Individual offices, workstations, multiple meeting rooms and large, open spaces. Chesapeake Contracting Group equipped every office and workstation with sit-stand desks, opted for larger-than-average, eight-foot-by-eight-foot workstations, and added glass panels to the tops of each workstation partition so that employees could feel safely separated but see across the office whenever they stood up.
