Ground broke on Laurel Park Station Friday, which will feature hundreds of condos and a MARC train station.
Laurel Park Station will be a mixed used transit-oriented development located adjacent to Laurel Park Racetrack, officials with The Stronach Group said.
Phase 1 of Laurel Park Station will feature 220 condominiums and two-over-two townhomes, a community garden and sport park. Building company Ryan Homes expects to deliver the first units in spring 2020.
Once complete, the 63-acre Laurel Park Station is expected to include 1,000 residential units, 127,000 square feet of retail space, 650,000 square feet of commercial/office space and 22 acres of open space that will feature a kayak launch on the Patuxent River and walking and running trails.
The Stronach Group owns Pimlico Race Course, home of the Preakness. Former Mayor Catherine Pugh, the Baltimore City Council and three residents have filed suit against the Stronach Group and its affiliated entities and MEDCO to prevent them from moving the Preakness out of Baltimore and into Laurel.
The lawsuit seeks to condemn Pimlico and the Preakness Stakes so Baltimore City can take over ownership.
