Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson plans to move its headquarters to a new five-story, 130,000-square-foot building in Hunt Valley, the latest major economic development win for northern Baltimore County.

The five-story building at 40 Wight Ave. is being developed by Westport, Conn.-based Greenfield Partners, which is also developing a new headquarters nearby for McCormick & Co. Inc.

The new building for JMT allows the architectural and engineering firm to consolidate under one roof about 600 Baltimore County employees currently spread across several offices on Loveton Circle in Sparks and in Towson.

JMT signed a 15-year lease space for the new building, which will replace a surface parking lot bounded by York, Schilling and Pepper roads. No financial incentives are being offered.

Design has started on the project and construction is expected to begin later in 2015. JMT expects to move in early 2017.

Baltimore-based Design Collective is the architect.

JMT is one of the largest engineering firms in the Baltimore area, with annual revenue in 2014 of nearly $165 million. Clients include the Maryland Department of Transportation, Baltimore City and Baltimore County. The firm employs 1,200 people companywide.

JMT's move is the latest in a string of headquarter deals for Hunt Valley and Sparks.

McCormick announced last month plans for a six-story, 320,000-square-foot headquarters on the site of a Verizon-owned building at the corner of Shawan and York roads. US Lacrosse broke ground last month on a $13 million headquarters in Sparks.

Meantime, Kelly & Associates Insurance Group purchased the former Fila USA Inc. building in Sparks and is converting the space into a headquarters for the company's 500 employees.
