Intern Receives Top Honors in International Urban Design Competition

Design Collective intern, Andrew Casavant, was among the interdisciplinary team of five-(5) graduate students from the University of Maryland that took first place in the 2014 Urban Land Institute (ULI) Gerald D. Hines Student Design Competition. This competition is a part of ULI’s Building Healthy Places Initiative in which students must devise a comprehensive development program for a real, large-scale site – in this instance, Nashville’s Sulphur Dell. The winning revitalization plan was selected by an international jury of experts in urban design, landscape architecture, planning and development, edging out the other finalists from Harvard University, University of Texas and Georgia Institute of Technology for a $50,000 grand prize. Since its debut in 2003, over 4,000 students have participated in this annual competition.
