Erma Ora Byrd Hall opened at Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, W.Va., on June 12. The new $10 million Nursing Academic Building accommodates the growing undergraduate nursing program at the school and provides adequate expansion space for a future master’s degree program.

U.S. Senator Robert C. Byrd attended the grand opening to dedicate the building in his wife’s, Erma Ora Byrd, memory who died on March 25, 2006. The new academic facility provides 35,000 NSF of technology-rich instructional space that will support an ever-changing instructional environment. The building offers offices and administrative support space, meeting rooms, seminar and group study spaces, and a faculty/staff collaboration room. Simulation laboratories allow students to imitate care in a hospital facility including labs for acute care, critical care, maternal/child and independent living.
